Summer Travels 2010 - Part 1: Pioneer Courthouse Square Floral Display in Portland, Oregon

Over the weekend my parents and I took a trip to Portland, Oregon, which is also known as "The City of Roses" and has many beautiful parks and gardens. In the coming days I will post about some of them, such as the Lan Su Chinese Garden and the International Rose Test Garden, but for now here is a less well-known Portland floral tradition: the annual potted floral display in Pioneer Courthouse Square.

Informational sign explaining the display

A zigzag path through the flowers

A view across the square

Different parts of the display have different color schemes

The displays even climb up the steps

The potted plants remain set up on the square for ten weeks and then, instead of being discarded, they are sold to the public.
